The macOS system must monitor remote access methods and generate audit records when successful/unsuccessful attempts to access/modify privileges occur. An XCCDF Rule
The macOS system must monitor remote access methods and generate audit records when successful/unsuccessful attempts to access/modify privileges occur.
Medium Severity
<VulnDiscussion>Frequently, an attacker that successfully gains access to a system has only gained access to an account with limited privileges, such as a guest account or a service account. The attacker must attempt to change to another user account with normal or elevated privileges in order to proceed. Without generating audit records that are specific to the security and mission needs of the organization, it would be difficult to establish, correlate, and investigate the events relating to an incident or identify those responsible for one.
Audit records can be generated from various components within the information system (e.g., module or policy filter).
