The ALG providing user authentication intermediary services must transmit only encrypted representations of passwords.

An XCCDF Rule

Description

<VulnDiscussion>Passwords need to be protected at all times and encryption is the standard method for protecting passwords. If passwords are not encrypted, they can be plainly read (i.e., clear text) and easily compromised. This requirement applies to ALGs that provide user authentication intermediary services. This does not apply to authentication for the purpose of configuring the device itself (device management).</VulnDiscussion><FalsePositives></FalsePositives><FalseNegatives></FalseNegatives><Documentable>false</Documentable><Mitigations></Mitigations><SeverityOverrideGuidance></SeverityOverrideGuidance><PotentialImpacts></PotentialImpacts><ThirdPartyTools></ThirdPartyTools><MitigationControl></MitigationControl><Responsibility></Responsibility><IAControls></IAControls>
